Text animations, silent
Installed in two adjacent rooms, the lives of two people were slowly unfolding as animated texts. The texts originated from short biographies found on the sleeves of two books and were translated from English to Finnish. The ambiguity of the fact that Finnish language does not distinguish between ‘he’ and ‘she’, instead using ‘hän’ for both sexes, was taken further by the removal of facts such as the place of birth and the year. Together with the pace of the words, the informative and temporal gaps called for vague mental images and a range of sub-stories.
