The rights of things

Installation; cotton, rust, beeswax
3,2 x 3,30 m

Installation views from the exhibitions The rights of things, Artspace, Sydney, Australia and Fictional Frictions, Gwangju Biennale, Gwangju, South Korea.

The installation interrogates Western economic systems to dismantle historical and contemporary claims to own, build on and trade land. The point of departure is Sir William Blackstone’s influential eighteenth-century treatise on the common law of England. In the chapter titled The rights of things, Blackstone lays down the foundations of property law and land tenure.
