TOOLS OF AN IMAGINED DEPRESSION PERIOD BURIED IN FUTURE, 2017
Installation; sand, assemblages, cling film, fabric, glue
5,6 x 5,2 x 3,6 x 1 m

Installation view and details from the exhibition Dugout, Oksasenkatu 11, Helsinki.

The work drew inspiration from the book Home-made: Contemporary Russian Folk Artifacts, which presents artist Vladimir Arkhipov’s collection of self-made Russian everyday objects from the early 90’s. The installation aimed at bringing forth ideas of a non-relatable future in the form of hybrid, makeshift objects. Under a thin layer of sand they became indecipherable remnants of a future already gone, while the sand itself gave way to notions of erosion, draught and infertile soil.
